Anyone know how far down the hole these pistons are suppose to be? I just took took the pan off 5 mins ago, will have to measure what I got. Webb28 feb. 2010 · A 283 only came with a small main journal crank (2.30"), but 327's came with both a small main and large main (2.45") journal crank. If the journals measure 2.30" or near that (turned down) you will be fine. Still I would assemble the short block "dry" to make sure you have what is said to be. Hope this helps. Webb25 apr. 2015 · A 283 .60 over is a 292 cubic inch. But yes if you use a stock bore 327 with 283 crank you get a 301, but you have to change the pistons so the pin height is right. Webb20 apr. 2016 · I know that you have a line a 327 steel crank and that is maybe the main reason for your intended build. IMHO find a steel 350 3.48" crank and use the 6" rods and I think you'll be much happier. Heck, that combo gives a great 1.72 rod ratio so the reduced detonation theory holds true here as well.
